DAWN-MARIE DRISCOLL
Chair
As an Executive Fellow at the Center for Business Ethics, Dawn-Marie’s background as a corporate attorney has allowed her to combine together her work in the business ethics field, particularly with regard to ethics and corporate governance, and to provide consulting, teaching and other services to top executives and directors. Ms. Driscoll was on the faculty of the national Ethics and Compliance Officer Association and has been appointed a visiting scholar at two prominent universities and also is a frequent teacher, panelist, moderator and presenter about business ethics issues in the U.S. and England. She has written several books and numerous articles about business ethics published in the United States, Asia and Europe.
In 2005, she joined the Southwest Florida Community Foundation Board, where she now serves as Chair of the Board. The legal and business ethics experience she brings is a highly respected and skilled addition to the Board. Other organizations and committees she has worked with are:
- Advisory board member of the Center for Business Ethics, Bentley University.
- Member of the Board of Editors of Business and Society Review.
- Independent director and the chairman of the board of DWS mutual funds ($130 billion); independent director of Sun Capital Advisers Trust ($5 billion)
- Director of ICI Mutual Insurance Company
- Former member of the Board of Governors of the Investment Company Institute, the national association of mutual funds, (including the audit, nominating and executive committees) and chair of the ICI’s Directors Service Committee
- Founding member of the Independent Directors Council, the national organization of mutual fund directors.
- Formerly a director, trustee and overseer of several institutions, including the Boston Municipal Research Bureau, the Downtown Crossing Association, WGBH-TV, The Massachusetts Bay United Way, and Regis College.
She graduated from Regis College and Suffolk University Law School and has been Vice President of Corporate Affairs and General Counsel of Filene’s, the Boston-based department store chain, as well as a partner at Palmer & Dodge in Boston.
Among Ms. Driscoll’s awards and honors are the 1999 Mutual Fund Trustee of the Year, an honorary Doctor of Arts degree from Regis College, an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Suffolk University and an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science degree from Bentley University Graduate School of Business.
Dawn-Marie lives in Cape Coral with her husband Norman Marcus; her son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren live nearby.
JOE MAZURKIEWICZ, JR. Ph.D
Vice Chair
Joe Mazurkiewicz is the President of BJM Consulting, Inc., a firm that specializes in local government activities. Elected as Mayor of Cape Coral, Florida, in 1983 and serving for ten years, he led the City in its attempt to change from a bedroom community to an urban center. Presently, Joe works on a variety of local issues ranging from land use cases to incorporation studies, and his company has completed incorporation studies for numerous areas in Southwest Florida.
Joe attended the University of Florida where he studied engineering and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Administration from Barry University, a Masters of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University and a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a Concentration in Public Administration Cum Laude from Stamford Hill University. Presently, he is Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Director of the Public Administration Program at IMPAC University.
The Southwest Florida Community Foundation Board of Trustees asked Mr. Mazurkiewicz to join them in 2003, and the Asset Development Committee as well as the Strategic Planning Committee have benefited from his professional knowledge and experience.
Currently, Joe also serves as Trustee Member of the Ruth Cooper Center for Behavioral Health Care Board, Executive Director of the Council for Progress Foundation, Board Member of Gulf Coast Village, Board member for the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Lee Memorial Community Visioning Committee and is a Rotarian through the Cape Coral Goldcoast Club. In the past, he has been Chairman for the Leadership Cape Coral Class of 200 and was a member of Lee County’s Local Planning Agency.
Joe and his wife, Heather, have three daughters and two grandsons and reside in Cape Coral, Florida.
SANDY ROBINSON
Secretary/Treasurer
Sandy is President for the Fort Myers office of Northern Trust which he joined in 2006. Prior to that he was with Fifth Third Bank in Naples, Florida, where he served at Vice President and team leader in the commercial real estate division.
He mastered a range of disciplines within the financial arena during his twenty six year career with NBD Bank and in 1993 was selected to fulfill a newly created position as Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer.
Sandy received a degree in History from Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
He serves on the boards of the Boy Scouts of America – Southwest Florida Council, the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida, Habitat for Humanity – Lee County, Hope Hospice, Princeton Club of Southwest Florida, the Uncommon Friends Foundation and the United Way of Lee County; he is also a member of the Lee Cancer Care Advisory Board.
Sandy and his wife, Patty, reside in Bonita Springs.
JAY A. BRETT
Immediate Past Chair
Jay Brett was admitted to the Florida and Federal Bar Associations in 1973 with a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida and has been in private practice with Sheppard, Brett, Stewart, Hersch, Kinsey & Hill PA since 1973, where he is currently the senior attorney. When Jay was elected to the Southwest Florida Community Foundation board of trustees in 1999, his experience in the fields of probate trust law, real estate law, and commercial litigation became an immediate asset.
Jay’s professional activities include serving on and chairing the 20th Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee; serving on and chairing the 20th Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission; and serving as Hearing Officer for the Lee County School Board. Jay has also spoken publicly on estate planning and real estate law for various financial institutions in Lee County.
Jay has been involved with his community by serving as a Director on the Lee County YMCA and on the advisory board of the First Union National Bank. He is also a Founding Director of Florida Gulf Bank.
Being the father of three children, Katie, Brian, and Alli, has afforded him the opportunity to coach youth and YMCA Basketball as well as being a director of Classic Basketball, Inc., the operator of the nationally known “City of Palms Classic.”
