SWFLCF Announces 2012 Scholarship Reception

Fort Myers, FLA. (April 30, 2012) –The Southwest Florida Community Foundation will honor its 2012 scholarship recipients at a reception on Monday, May 21 from 7 to 8:30 pm at Edison State College in Fort Myers. For the 2012 scholarship season, 743 eligible applications were received from high school and college students in the five county area the foundation serves.

According to Anne Douglas, director of programs for the foundation, 69 scholarships will be awarded for a total of $237,450 in competitive scholarships and another almost $180,000 awarded through the designated and outside committee scholarships, for a grand total of over $415,000.

Community foundation scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who will continue their education at the university, community college or vocational/technical school level, as well as to undergraduate and graduate students continuing a post-secondary education.

Scholarship donors, volunteer reviewers and Foundation trustees will be on hand to celebrate the achievements of these talented students.

The Southwest Florida Community Foundation is celebrating its 35th year of supporting the communities of Lee, Charlotte, Glades, Hendry and Collier counties by connecting donors and their philanthropic aspirations with evolving community needs. The community foundation has provided more than $50 million in grants and scholarships to the communities it serves. During its 2011 fiscal year, SWFLCF granted more than $3 million to more than 100 different organizations supporting education, animal welfare, arts and human services.
