The 2014 Scholarship Cycle will open on December 20, 2013.
The Southwest Florida Community Foundation established its first scholarship fund in 1980 and now administers 61 individual scholarship funds, and awards over $400,000 in scholarships annually to students in Southwest Florida.
Scholarships are available for high school seniors wanting to continue their education at the university, community college, or vocational/technical school level, as well as for undergraduate and graduate students continuing their post-secondary education.
For a detailed list of the Community Foundation’s scholarship funds, go to our Scholarship Directories page.
The Southwest Florida Community Foundation’s scholarship applications are now completed exclusively online, and with our new E-Apply feature, students can complete and submit their applications electronically, upload attachments, and track the status of their submissions to the Community Foundation.
The Community Foundation will now only accept applications online through our website, and complete applications must be submitted by midnight of the published deadline.
Students interested in applying for a Community Foundation Scholarship should first review our Directory of Scholarships for High School Seniors or the Directory of Scholarships for Undergraduate or Graduate Students for information about each of the available scholarships, as scholarship eligibility requirements vary according to the specific wishes of each scholarship fund’s donor.
Applying online for a Southwest Florida Community Foundation scholarship is easy. To access an online application, you will be required to "create a new account" if you are a first time user of our E-Apply tool. Once you have established an account, the system will remember your contact information and will automatically tie it to any other online scholarship applications submitted through our online system.
- Step 1: Click on the link to the E-Apply Online Application Portal below.
- Step 2: Create a New Account (first time only).
- Step 3: Once you have created a user ID and Password, log on to the Online Application Portal.
- Step 4: Select the scholarship(s) you want to apply for and begin the application.
We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the online application before you begin, and you can click on the Applicant Tutorial for more information about the online process. You may find it helpful to prepare some of the longer answers in a word processing document and then cut and paste that text into the application, especially since you must submit a separate application for each scholarship for which you would like to be considered, and most of the required information for each application is the same.

You will be asked to attach documents. If these documents exist in electronic format, you can attach them using the "Browse" button inside the application. If they are not in electronic format, you can use the "Fax to File" feature on the upper left side of the application page.
After reading the Tutorial, click the E-Apply box below to begin the application process:
THE DETERMINATION PROCESS
Scholarship recipients are selected based upon the specific criteria made by each fund’s donor. Each scholarship application is reviewed for completion of all required elements.
Every application is reviewed by a member of the Community Foundation’s volunteer Scholarship Reading Committee. Some scholarships also require a personal interview (applicants applying for those scholarships will be notified and an appointment will be scheduled).
After all applications are reviewed and interviews completed, the Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees will review all recommendations and approve the scholarship awards.
NOTIFICATION OF AWARDS
Recipients of each scholarship will be notified by the Community Foundation by the end of May. If a student has not been notified, it means he/she was not awarded a scholarship this year.
PAYMENT OF AWARDS
Payments are mailed directly to the school’s financial aid office before the beginning of each school year. Checks are made payable to the school and not to the individual recipient. To collect your scholarship award, please send your student ID number, class schedule, and the address of the school to the Community Foundation office at:
8771 College Parkway, Building 2, Suite 201, Fort Myers, FL 33919.
