Field-of-Interest

Andy and his wife Jenny had seen a lot of misery in their adult lives. Jenny was a social worker for a state agency. Andy was a nurse practioner in an agency that provided health care for the poor. They each saw scores of examples of families with critical health needs and who had exhausted their finances. They talked about their concern to the estate planning attorney. She suggested they establish a Field Of Interest Fund at the Community Foundation. Today their fund provides annual proceeds that are distributed to "needy families with medical emergencies." The Foundation Trustees select agencies that help such families and makes grants to improve their programs. For example, their Fund provided an agency that helps immigrant families with funds to pay their funeral expenses. Andy and Jenny's Fund has grown by a third in the 12 years since it was founded, and has given away almost as much money as they donated in the first place. They are both living and enjoying reports on how their funds are helping others.
